August 2013[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Inter16. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Jo Stafford, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Inter16 (talk) 15:55, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with Inter16. Every source I've seen about the recording uses the name Cinderella G. Stump. This includes Gene Lees, who interviewed Stafford for his 1989 mini biography. If you can find something reliable to support your change then I'm happy to review it. Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:33, 5 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for getting back to me, Terry. I'm a few years younger than yourself so have to rely on other people for my information of this period. There are very few Google hits for "Cinderella Q Stump", and it asks "Did you mean Cinderella G Stump?", so I'm not sure this stems from Wikipedia. One of the first uses of "G" goes back to 1947 when Billboard Magazine listed Stafford as "Cinderella G. Stump". Incidentally I've just rechecked the Lees reference and he doesn't give a letter, so maybe by then there was enough confusion between q and g to make it impossible to know the truth. I can see your point; the two are often written in a similar style, particularly when done by hand. If we could find a reliable newspaper source from the time, this matter could be amended.
