February 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Binksternet. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Marc Almond, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Binksternet (talk) 15:44, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

These are not mistakes. These updates and amendments are requested by Marc himself. The Wicked Witch Of The Web (talk) 16:19, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I get that. And thanks for removing the incorrect middle name Sinclair from Marc and his father.
You explicitly cited Billboard for the quote "finds a middle ground between the spare gothic synth-pop" etc., which is okay. It would be preferable to add a footnote-style citation to the article as it may be seen online to allow verification.
But you changed the sales figure of 30 million to 38 million without citing a new source. This is critically important stuff, requiring good sourcing.
You also added a Jethro Tull album to his early listening. Is there a published source for that?
You also implied that Soft Cell were the first techno group upon the release of "Memorabilia" in 1981. Claiming to be the first techno artist is huge. Nobody has published a history of techno naming Soft Cell as the first. Unsupported claims such as this cannot stand in Wikipedia. Binksternet (talk) 17:02, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi and thanks for trying to ensure accuracy. My source is Marc Almond himself, who I work for. The figure of 30 million was out of date, (which didn't have any reference to source). 38 is correct, Marc knows how many he has sold :-)
Similarly the references to Jethro Tull album and single being his first records are from Marc himself, not some online source but the horses mouth!
Regarding Memorabilia, it has been mentioned by many but I'm not aware of a specific online source so we'll leave that as I don't want to spend time looking for them The Wicked Witch Of The Web (talk) 18:54, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Marc does not get to dictate content for Wikipedia. The purpose of Wikipedia is to summarize published sources. If it's not published, it doesn't belong on Wikipedia. Explain to Marc, please, that Wikipedia is not his personal website to adjust as he sees fit. Binksternet (talk) 19:10, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Fully understand it's not Marc's personal website and should not carry opinion and the like, just facts. That's why I corrected wrong information, to make it factual. The Wicked Witch Of The Web (talk) 19:27, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
