The Edenites were formed in 2003 when Enfield born guitarist and singer Terry “Telbop” Gilmour and North London based rapper Greg “Gzus” Jarvis united to write a song in tribute to the passing of a mutual friend. Working together came so naturally that the pair began to write a wealth of material. Using a combination of sequencing software and live instruments they wrote, recorded and ultimately developed the unique Edenite sound, an eclectic blend of reggae, rap, funk and rock with ever soaring lead breaks and driven by powerful and political lyrics.
Performing at venues around North London, The Edenites decided to expand their live sound by recruiting a full band. First to join their ranks was guitarist Duncan McMahon, followed quickly by Steve “Jonzi” Johns on Bass and Glen Jenkins on Drums. As a five piece The Edenites began the arduous journey that is the Camden circuit, but the never ending stream of mid-week gigs eventually took it’s toll on the band and they decided to take a break in 2007
In the summer of 2010 Telbop, Gzus & Jonzi whose elaborate and funky bass lines had become an integral part of the Eden sound, decided to reform and start writing and recording again. The trio dusted off the sequencing software and began to build a set while scouting the local area for talented musicians to replenish and complete the line-up. First to be recruited was Wembley based guitarist James “Lightning” Appleby followed by Enfield born drum supremo Jake Bradford-Sharp in late 2011.
The new look Edenites have began to build and perform a set in and around North London while also taking the time to book into a top London studio to record their debut single “Welcome to London” which is due for release sometime before the summer of 2012 and is being widely tipped to become the unofficial anthem of the London Olympics.
