Hi, Tommovewithus. I welcome you to Wikipedia! Thank you for all of your edits. I hope you like editing here and being part of Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); when you save the page, this will turn into your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or put {{helpme}}
(and what you need help with) on your talk page and someone will show up very soon to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

Hi, thank you for the kind welcome and advice. It is clear that I am new to all of this and am learning the ropes, but your advice and links were very helpful. Thanks again. Tom1987 (talk) 08:11, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, the username you have chosen (Tommovewithus) seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of a group, company or website.
There are two issues with this:
- It is possible that you have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, you must exercise great caution when editing on topics related to your organization.
- Your account cannot represent a group of people. You may wish to create a new account with a username that represents only you. Alternatively, you may consider changing your username to avoid giving the impression that your personal account is being used for promotional purposes.
Regardless of whether you change your name or create a new account, you are not exempted from the guidelines concerning editing where you have a conflict of interest. For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 19:17, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi, thank you for the information. I will seek to remedy this as soon as possible. I apologise for any infringement or problem I have caused, it was not intentional. Thanks again. Tom1987 (talk) 08:12, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Hey
[edit]Hey, you might want to know you're discussed here. I had no obligation to tell you (and seems neither did the people talking behind your back), but I remember a friend of mine being put in a similar situation here and he didn't like it and would've liked to be told about it. Cheers! --Anime Addict AA (talk) 00:04, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Hi, I really appreciate your help and concern regarding this. It is reassuring to know that some people are looking out for the novices on here! Of course I would much rather know directly that I am causing a problem, rather than behind my back. Thanks again. Tom1987 (talk) 08:13, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- To be clear, it is not "behind your back" but a standard and common administrative procedure which has been going on for almost as long as Wikipedia. You have been informed of the issue with your username (see section above). We do appreciate your contributions, and would prefer that as a member in good standing of the Wikipedia community you abide by the rules, as we all do. It is a simple issue if you want to create a new account name, or if you prefer to keep your existing editing history, to request a change of name. Please do one or the other soon. This account name has to be closed to comply with the rules. If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, or at my Talk page. You can also add a comment if you wish in the Admin board you were pointed to, but those entries do no stay on for too long as the board only deals with current issues. -- Alexf(talk) 11:58, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Thank you for the clarification on the process. I have requested a change of username and am just waiting for a confirmation of that. Hopefully then this will all be resolved. Thanks. Tom1987 (talk) 13:14, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
