Welcome!

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia! I'd be glad to be your mentor. If you have any questions at all, just ask. How's it going so far? Have you decided on an article and done any research yet? – VisionHolder « talk » 14:54, 27 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, I noticed you listed "Primary education" as your article. Did I read that correctly? Or was there a specific NGO you wanted to focus on? Please let me know. – VisionHolder « talk » 22:21, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thanks so much for getting back to me. I am planning on doing research on primary education in Africa. I have a lot of information about Ghana and South Africa, but I also plan on doing more with smaller countries as well. I noticed on the primary education page it listed what grades were what ages for countries, but rarely anything else. I wanted to add information about African countries, especially how their systems work and the problems within them. The other article I want to edit is a NGO for young girls primary education called She's the First. The article currently has little information about what the organization actually does and their development strategies and structure which is actually quite different than most NGOs. Please let me know if you have any advice! I plan to do a little more research and probably start editing this weekend.

There are a lot of problems with the primary education article, and that list needs to be moved to a separate list article. The content of that article should be about primary education in general, with more of an international focus. You could write an article such as Primary education in Africa or something more specific. Otherwise, I think it would be great to revamp She's the First. That may be your best bet. – VisionHolder « talk » 15:13, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ok sounds great, when you say I could write an article such as primary education in Africa, are you saying to create a new separate article? I also found an article called education in africa, should i incorporate either this or the primary education article in any way or would you recommend just putting the articles as links within that are related?

Honestly, it all depends on the scope and quantity of the material you plan to generate. If all you have is a few paragraphs, then it would be best to provide subsections within existing articles. If you have vast amounts of information to include, then it could merit its own article. If you want to work on stuff related to primary education in Africa, I advise reviewing your sources and drawing up an outline. From that, we can probably make a more informed decision. Otherwise, She's the First looks like a great article to revamp assuming you have enough material to significantly expand it. I would also suggest getting the opinion of your instructor, just to be safe. – VisionHolder « talk » 21:31, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have recently completed a lot of edits on the She's the First page. Please let me know if you have any advice or suggestions about my edits. I also decided after completing my research that I found resources talking about more than just primary education most useful. I found a lot of information about corruption in ages of education in Africa and found no such section on the [[Education in Africa] page. I am planning on adding one and have written on the talk page asking for any suggestions from past editors. Please also let me know if you have any suggestions on these edits as well.
