Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Giant planet, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. ArkHyena (talk) 21:04, 7 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear ArkHyena,
While I am aware of the Wikipedia requirement to "cite a reliable source," I consider the data (semi-major axes in this cause) in the limited-access fields of Wikipedia articles (such as the "Orbital Characteristics") to be a "reliable source." I noticed that a graph* in the "Lunar distance" article has a footnote showing "USER:Sch - own work." If I added "USER:VativonHans - own work" to my statements, would that be acceptable?
  • "Variation of the distance between the centers of the Moon and the Earth over 700 days."
Sincerely,

Own work is permitted for visual graphics, provided that they are based off of reliable data/sources and do not engage in WP:SYNTH. In this case, it would be fine to create a graphic demonstrating the semi-major axes of a group of celestial objects (though many already exist). However, unless it has been stated in a reliable source, claims of an unusual or noteworthy pattern cannot be included and would fall under WP:SYNTH and/or WP:OR.
