Redundancy in field axioms

[edit]

I see that you changed a definition in the article Field (mathematics) to specify that the additive and multiplicative groups are both Abelian. Clearly that is an essential requirement for the multiplicative group, and thank you for making the correction. However, it may be of some slight interest to you to know that although every text book definition of a field that I have ever seen includes the requirement for addition to be commutative, that is in fact redundant, as it follows very easily from the other axioms.
