Wikipedia is not a publicity medium, use Facebook instead[edit]

A tag has been placed on your user page, User:PeganaPress, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be blatant advertising which only promotes or publicises a company, product, group or service, and which is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages; user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you can indicate why the page is not blatant advertising, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this: Click here to contest this speedy deletion which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy deletion candidate). Doing so will take you to your user talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also edit this page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would help make it encyclopedic. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. INeverCry 18:43, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Contested deletion[edit]

This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... (I guess I'm confused. I thought a user page was about the user. I've tried to make it as factual as possible. I've been reading the guidelines. So to make it easier, since I'm not getting it right, I have deleted all information from the User page. I hope that will satisfy the requirements. Thank you.) --PeganaPress (talk) 22:29, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your user page is not about a user, it is about a company, and companies cannot have Wikipedia accounts, only individuals can. Also Wikipedia is not to be used for publicity, ever. Please use Facebook or MySpace for that purpose.
Also, please don't take offense at the boilerplate message below, but you really do need to read it. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:47, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I'm new to Wikipedia. There's a lot to read about how to use it. I spent hours trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. My reason for being here was to contribute to an article which has already been contributed to by others in my profession about a specific authors work. That's all I wanted to do. I misunderstood what information I was supposed to share on the user page, because I mistakenly thought that only moderators of the site would have access to it, and I was trying to give accurate info based on the user name I chose. I didn't know initially when I picked the User Name that it would be a problem, and I will gladly change it if you will allow me to. My problem is one of ignorance. I assure you I was not thinking of Wikipedia as an advertising venue. I do already have a legitimate website, and I do already use social media as you suggested. I'm sure I'm not the first person who has made this mistake through inexperience with the site. I appreciate Wikipedia, and I also have a deep respect for the topic I was trying to contribute to. I would appreciate it if you would take that into consideration, and allow me resolve this issue to your satisfaction and so I may keep my account. Sincerely. --PeganaPress (talk) 23:57, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What you need to do now is follow the instructions in the block message below to appeal the block. The unblock template lets you specify your new username. You won't be unblocked until you propose a new username. Also in your appeal, explain what you intent to do once you are unblocked, including your understanding of Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. ~Amatulić (talk) 00:03, 8 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. This is an unfamiliar way to communicate, but I think I'm learning it.

Blocked[edit]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:47, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I signed up using my publishing name before I knew that was not allowed. It is not my intention to advertise on Wikipedia, but to contribute as a scholar of the works of certain authors I am familiar with due to my life long passion for a specific genre. The pages of directions are so involved that I was overwhelmed, and was also having trouble communicating with moderators through my inexperience with this format. When I finally figured it out, I had been blocked. Of course I understand conflict of interest. But my offense was one of ignorance, and confusion rather than trying to use Wikipedia to further a small company. I hope you will accept my new user name. I also work with small children, and the alphabet was all I could think of after a stressful day spent trying to resolve my error.

For username change. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:56, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note from blocking admin to reviewing admin: I now believe this editor does not intend to violate Wikipedia policies and wants to be a valued contributor, under a different user name. ~Amatulić (talk) 15:38, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Change your username[edit]

Now that you are unblocked, please go to WP:CHU/Simple and request that your username be changed. ~Amatulić (talk) 17:01, 11 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
