British empire edit

[edit]

Hi. I notice that you claimed (since reverted as POV) that 10 million death is India following the rebellion was a bigger death toll than the Holocaust. Even if I accepted your figure without debate, there have been bigger "holocausts" than the alledged one to which you refer. I would remind you that the oft quoted figure of 6 million for the "Holocaust" is just the Jews. There were Gipsies, homosexuals, political prisoners, quite a lot of Russian POWs (the gas chambers were first tested on Russian/Ukrainian POWs), and other assorted East Europeans (e.g. Hungarians, Poles, Russians, Ukrainians etc. etc.). In Auschwitz, for example, at least 1.5 million non-Jews were killed. Overall total for Auchwitz is reckoned to be about 4 million. And that is just one camp! There were many camps. I don't know the exact number off-hand, but it is more than 10. Then there are all the summary executions, unmarked pits, death squads, "anti-partisan" units etc. etc. Other big time killings include the forced collectivization of the Ukraine by Stalin in the 1930's. Figures of 20 to 30 million are often quoted for this.
Perhaps if you research these two areas a little more, you will get a more balanced perspective on history.
Hope this helps.

Mariya Oktyabrskaya 14:31, 16 October 2007 (UTC) Encarta gives http://uk.encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761579484/Collectivization.html the figure for the Ukraine as 14.5 million. Rather than argue about exact numbers, I think you will agree that is a lot more than a speculative 10 million.[reply]
Hope this helps

New edit still speculative, POV etc. etc., but at least not patently false. It may (although I personally do not believe the 10 million, but that is my POV) be ONE of the worst etc.etc.
Lotss of other editors seem to have a problem with your source, but that will wait a bit.
In general though, well done!
Of course I don't agree with you, but then you don't agree with me either ;-)

Of course the new "altered" edit looks like YOUR work. Is it specifically from a source, or is the 10 million from a source, and the bit about it being one of the worst genocides is history YOUR own conclusions. A trip to WP:OR might clear up why I am raising this.
You can reply, you know. I don't bite really!

Royal Navy edit.

[edit]

I have reverted your edit, because I feel that 99% + of the world's naval battle have nothing to do with the RN. Similarly, I am sure you will agree that linking it to English / British battles is equally pointless, as for a start any battle before the sixteenth century (of which britain had quite a lot) clearly have nothing to do with the RN. Also most battles after that date are nothing to do with the RN either. It could be argued that they are "vaguely" linked to the RN, but for that matter, so is every military action anywhere in the world ever, and even more indirectly so is every other human action.
So that's what I think.
I am not some sort of judge, however, and ypu are entirely free to hold a different opinion.
If you share you opinion and reasoning with me, I may even agree with it, and end up a better person !
So, could you possibly discuss this on the Talk pages, or my Talk page, or here before we get into too much in the way of an edit war?

I could just get up every day and revert your RN stuff - but that would be a bit petty don't you think (especially over such a small matter as a couple of links. We could talk about it, and you could convince me, or I could raise it on the RN Talk page, and see what other users think.
I was born right, there is a bit in the middle when I am right, and I will die right ;-)
But sometimes I am more right than at other times, so what do you think?

Hanging Irish picture

[edit]

You seem to have inserted this picture in at least two places.
I would like to edit them out, so, can you:
a) explain why it should be right at the top of the Insurgency page, rather than at any other point;
b) explain why it should be apparently randomly inserted in a part of the British Empire page which has nothing to do with the picture (that sections deals with 1870 onwards, while the picture is apparently referring to the 1798 rebellion)
Mariya - x -
Mariya Oktyabrskaya 16:55, 17 October 2007 (UTC) I deleted the pictre from the British Empire page. It has no relevance whatsoever to the place you inserted in the text. The Insurgency picture is not so clear cut, so that can be resolved later. The placing of the Insurgency picture, however is still problematic. Can you not find a better place to insert it into the article.[reply]
Plus, what is the original source of the picture?
It can hardly be used in context if you don't know who drew it or the purpose it was drawn for, I am sure you will agree.
Love to hear from you,
