September 2014[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Amortias. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Erasmus Student Network because it appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" are against Wikipedia policy and not permitted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. September 2014[edit]

Dear Amortias. I am Esndenmark. I cannot understand why you undid my recent contributions. I was looking at teh ESN wikipedia page, and I just saw that, in the table where all ESN countries are listed, the website from ESN Denmark was missing, and I just added it. If all countries can have a link to their website, why ESN Denmark should not have it? Moreover, we are a non-profit, volunteer, student organisation... And I also updated the number of sections from 4 to 5... because it is outdated...

Could you tell me how come this violates wikipedia's policy?

Hi. The information was removed as it appeared to be promotional, the combination of your username and the link to the site made it appear promotional. The best way to have this included is to make a request on the talk page for the article stating that theres a WP:COI due to your username. Amortias (T)(C) 18:14, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Come on... this is a student organisation... but look at the content I added and you see it is legit... And in accordance to the rest of the page... And I also updated some outdated information. But if changing information with this user name creates problems, I can redo the change with a different name .... Esndenmark (talk) 18:18, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You would be advised not to add content under a different username as this would fall foul of this policy. If the changes are uncontroversial then there shouldnt be any issue with another editor including them on the site once they have been posted on the talk page. Thank you for your advise! I tried to change it without user name. Have a good day!

Username Policy[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Esndenmark", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because  you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account for editing. Thank you. Stesmo (talk) 18:40, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I could see the problems. I just requested a change!

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you.
