My current project is a re-write of the page for author Richard Milton. You can see my work in progress in my sandbox. 'Please don't edit my sandbox!' It is not finished - in particular, I need to chase down some of the references.

What I have done so far is:

  • Expanded the introduction
  • Put details of books in reverse chronological order (most recent first)
  • Added a balancing quote to that of Richard Dawkins
  • Added context to the critique of Rob Carroll
  • Removed references to the website alternativescience.com as it no longer exists. I've also removed claims made on the website as there is no way I can verify them.
  • Added a complete list of Richard Milton's published books
  • Added dates to the book references
  • Removed references to Milton as a creationist as there are no citations to back them up, and he himself clearly says that he is not and that he has no religious views. If anyone objects to this, and can find reputable, citable references that state Milton is a creationist, I can add the quote from Richard's book where he states uncategorically that he is not.

Bear with my if I am making mistakes - I am new to wikipedia.

Hi Wellsworth! Good to see someone working on the Milton article. Looks good. You may want to tighten the style a little. Now it reads a little like a magazine article, especially the intro. Only state basic facts on the intro. Stuff like names of his websites should be moved to the body of the article. My advice is to find a biography article on Wikipedia of someone with a similar life theme, i.e. (controversial) author, and try to get a feel for the encyclopedic style. Also, I recommend leaving the "creationist" bit in, maybe in the form of "Milton has sometimes been erroneously referred to as a creationist, which he ... " or similar. Otherwise it will soon pop back into the article anyway. Add ref to both the false claim and Richard's refutation. Why remove alternativescience.com? It was very popular and you can still find it in archive.org. Maybe ask Richard why he let it die? If the answer is relevant, add it in the article as a quote. Didn't Richard also have a how-to book on PR (I forget the book's name). --Sumafi (talk) 23:10, 24 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't realise that the alternative science website was still accessible. I guess I can't remove all that stuff then! Your suggested wording for the creationist thing is very helpful. I have no idea where the suggestion that he is a creationist is from. Whoever put it on the page didn't cite a reference. --Wellsworth 12:53, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

In response to Sumafi's helpful comments, I have moved the websites out of introduction and created a new section 'websites' I have put the stuff about alternativescience.com back in, and have changed the wording so that it records the contents of the website (ie facts) rather than interpretations ('according to Milton Cold fusuion is ...'. Reading the cold fusion article, he seems to be reporting on the controversy rather than making grandiose personal claims and this revised wording seems to reflect that more accurately.

Sumalfi's other suggestions to be actioned when I have more time. --Wellsworth 14:19, 27 February 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. I will read your article when I've got more time.

I was sad when the alternative science website got taken down as it used to be one of my favourite sites on the Web. Meltingpot (talk) 10:10, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Milton

[edit]

Have you read Milton's book Facts of Life? If you have can you confirm that Fred Hoyle, Sheldrake, Reich, etc etc are mentioned in the book? I have read the book and i have the pages numbers where Milton discussed the work of Fred Hoyle etc, there all there. Can you look on the new sections on the talk page for the Richard Milton article. And would be nice to have your input thanks. Liveintheforests (talk) 19:59, 12 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
