[edit]

I have made a few minor edits so far, but with the help of "Wikipedia: The Missing Manual", I am hoping to get more involved in this project.

Hi. Are you the same person as 64.128.107.223 (talk · contribs)? What makes me think so is the fact that one of your first contributions was to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dale Sweetland where you expressed a familiarity with the discussion. I bring this up because if true, you voted twice at the discussion, which is in violation of Wikipedia:Sock puppetry. If you are another person, but were sent to vote by the person at the IP, it would be violative of Wikipedia:Meatpuppetry. You can rectify the problem by striking one of the votes. If I am dead-wrong on my understanding of the situation, I apologize.

In regard to the substantive notability question: Generally, people that have not yet won an election and whose main claim to notability is running for election are not considered notable for Wikipedia purposes.

I do have a very good suggestion, however. At this point, you can create an article titled New York's 25th congressional district election, 2008, where you can include all the information on Dale Sweetland. Then, you can redirect [Dale Sweetland]] to that article, so that if someone is seeking information on Mr. Sweetland, and they type "Dale Sweetland" into the Wikipedia searchbox they are sent to that article where they can find all the information they want. Basically, do the same that is done to Dan Maffei, which redirects to New York's 25th congressional district election, 2006.

If you have any questions, you can ask me here (I'll put this talkpage on my watchlist) or at my talk page. Best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 01:35, 19 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I am not the same person as the IP address you cite. I did not vote twice nor was I sent to vote by the person at the IP address.

I'm not familiar with the standards for settling the substantive notability question. Thank you for clarifying this.

Thanks as well for the suggestion about an article titled New York's 25th congressional district election, 2008. It might make sense to consolidate both major party candidate articles -- Dale Sweetland's and Dan Maffei's. But if one major party candidate has an article, it seems that both should have one. Best, wilfis.
