How to Toilet Train your puppy

[edit]

Have you ever wondered if it's possible to teach your dog to use a toilet? Well, they can! I'll explain to you how this works.

There are a few items you will need for this to work.

Item 1) A puppy pad holder.

Item 2) Puppy Pads

Item 3) bricks

Item 4)Pheromone spray

Item 5) Stairs

I highly recommend stairs if you're training a puppy or a clumsy dog.

You start out with putting a puppy pad on the pad holder, the holder will make sure your pup cannot move the pad around. Plus you'll need the holder later on. If your puppy pads do not have the built in pheromone, spray some pheromone spray in the middle of the pad. Place the pad and pad holder in the washroom that you want your dog to use, or in every washroom in your house.

I suggest putting up gates and closing doors to keep the puppy in the area of no carpet and the washroom until the pup understands.

Show your puppy the pad, if the puppy uses it then praise it and stroke it, if the pup uses the floor, do not yell. Pick the pup up and place it on the pad, then clean up the mess. The pup will learn that pad = Attention and No pad = No attention.

Try this for a couple of days, and then move the pad holder and pads near the toilet. Wait two days.

Put 1 brick under each side of the pad holder, wait three days. Keep adding bricks until it gets to toilet height (this is where you need the stairs.)

After the pup is used to being up that high and using the pad, put the pad holder on your toilet with the seat up. Put the stairs in front and show the pup where it got moved to. If this doesn't work, go back and step and wait a little longer, then try again. Once the pup recognizes that it's there, you can try putting the seat down. Make sure the pad is still there and the pheromone is sprayed in the middle.

You can move it when a human has to use the washroom.

Once you think it has been long enough, you can try taking the pad and pad holder away. For extra caution, you can spray the pheromone into the toilet. If your pup doesn't understand, take a step back and do it again.

Soon, you'll be able to stop rewarding the action, and your pup will just do it on his/her own.

Your dog is then officially toilet trained! You'll never have to go outside in -20 degree weather again.
