[edit]As an extremely rare case of a woman, and a Euro-American, in command authority within a militant Muslim organization, this person is one of the more notable former commanders in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). She was charged by the U.S. government for terrorism-related crimes, convicted, and given the maximum sentence -- 20 years in U.S. federal prison -- November 1, 2022.
