V. Balakumaran [1] used to be one of the two top leaders of Eelam Revolutionary Organisation of Students (EROS).
Balakumar used to work in a bank, this made it easy for groups such as LTTE and PLOTE to rob the bank as Balakumar was in favour of Tamil Eelam[citation needed]
In 1990 he and large portion of EROS members left the organization and joined the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). He is believed to be active in LTTE's political division.
A Tamil Tigers senior leader Balakumaran is reported to have been seriously wounded in an assault by soldiers that had pinned the Tamil rebels down in a small patch of jungle in northeastern Sri Lanka. On January 29, 2009 it was reported that Balakumaran was critically wounded.
