Goals
[edit]Create a working list of all biology faculty at the University, past and present, with dates of hiring and retirement, going back to Hutton in 1873.All these researchers in Wikidata, using any published biographical information available, linked to ORCID and other identifiers.- For each researcher, all available research publications in Wikidata, linked to them as the authors, with a Scholia publications list and graphs.
- A WikiCommons category for each faculty member, using images scanned or located in departmental archives and other sources, with a profile photo assigned to their Wikidata item.
- Additional field and lab photographs sourced from institutional or private collections and placed in a new Commons category, Research at the University of Otago; cleared with copyright owners under an open licence.
- Those images strategically deployed across Wikipedia articles and Wikidata.
- Creation of Wikipedia articles about Ian Jamieson and Phil Bishop, and any other faculty that meet Wikipedia’s notability threshold (sufficient coverage of their life and work in multiple independent publications).
- Expansion of exisiting articles to include a summary of research, publications list, and a photo gallery. For each faculty member, findings from significant research papers summarised and cited in at least one relevant Wikipedia article
Zoology Department researchers
[edit]Wikidata generally uses the full name as given in author lists on publications; Wikipedia would use the most-commonly-referred-by name—in this case the one in the Department's staff listing. The Scholia link shows the number of publications currently in Wikidata.
