Walden Schmidt is a fictional character on the CBS television comedy Two and a Half Men, portrayed by Ashton Kutcher.[1]

Biography

Schmidt is a billionaire internet entrepreneur who has recently been divorced and is now suicidal.[2] When Charlie Harper dies, his brother Alan Harper puts his house on the market after their mother Evelyn discovers that Charlie had three mortgages on it and Alan is unable to make the payments.[citation needed] Several guest stars view the house, as does Schmidt himself. He chooses to buy the house, and becomes a main character in the series.[3] Walden is recently divorced from Bridget Schmidt (portrayed by Judy Greer who also play Herb's sister Myra), and bonds with Alan and Jake so they can overcome each others' losses.

In the premiere episode of season 9, Walden reveals himself to be intelligent on technology and sold his work to Microsoft.

Production

Kutcher was announced as Charlie Sheen's replacement for the series on May 13, 2011, after Sheen was fired on March 7, 2011.[4] The season 9 premiere, titled "Nice to Meet You, Walden Schmidt", (Kutcher's first episode) was filmed in mid-August 2011[citation needed], and aired on September 19, 2011.[5]
