Walkin' Wheels is an American brand of dog wheelchairs or carts developed by Mark C. Robinson from HandicappedPets.com based in Nashua, New Hampshire.[2]
Overview and construction
It is the first adjustable (contrary to custom made)[3] dog wheelchair in the market[4] designed to help pets with mobility problems including degenerative myelopathy, arthritis, paralysis, neurological disorders and others.
Neoprene or fabric harness is clipped to a frame. The frame is attached to wheels which replace the function of the rear legs, allowing the dog mobility. Wheels are interchangeable, so that the dog wheelchair can be used on different size dogs, or dogs that are growing. A knuckle mechanism allows to angle of the wheel to be changed based on the health of the animal,[1] and for the dog wheelchair to fold flat for easy transportation.[5]
Media appearances
In 2010, a paralized mixed breed Lucy climbed Mt. Washington, the highest point in the northeastern United States using Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair.[6]
The use of Walkin' Wheels was featured in number of regional and national media including WMUR-TV,[7] USA Today,[8] CNN,[9] New England Cable News, Animal Planet,[10] Daily News[11] and others.
