Watermelon Creek passes through the cities of Belton and Williamston, South Carolina.

Elbert Monroe Snipes moved to the banks of Watermelon Creek in 1788. There he built a house, a store, a post office, and two mills powered by the creek's flow. The settlement grew and became the town of Fairdeal, South Carolina.

The creek was named for the watermelons grown on its shores by a nearby Native American tribe.[citation needed]
