Note: SoupBot was orginally named BennieBot, but I've forgotten the password of that account and the Wikipedia help desk doesn't want to give me access to the account so It's renamed.
Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic, unclear things will be supervised.
Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser
Source code available: Will be released soon on https://github.com/Bennievv/BennieBot.
Function overview: Fixing dead links and typos, adding links to pages if necesary, fixing griefed pages.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): N/A
Edit period(s): Continuous (Can run on slow-mode, which checks every minute).
Estimated number of pages affected: -/+ 100 pages per hour
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): Yes.
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): N/A
Function details: The bot browses through the pages marked they contain no links, and links all the words that match a page. It also fixes typos in posts marked as "containing typos". It also fixes pages that aren't marked, but with less priority. When fixed, it will remove the template/mark it as removeable. Every template that's deleted will be in the bot's log, so operators and admins can check it, and revert it if necessary. SoupBot also searches pages with no / a little text. If it finds a page, it will check the history. If it did have much more text, it will restore the text. If it's unclear, he marks it as "Possibly griefed", so other admins/bots can take a look at it. Maybe I'll implement a grammar fixing function to it, but I'm not sure (when).
Discussion
[edit]If the bot "links all the words that match a page", how would it prevent overlinking? How would your bot avoid the issues detailed in Wikipedia:Bots/Frequently denied bots#Fully automatic spell-checking bots? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:27, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Denied. Sorry, but you're clearly not ready to be a bot operator. The community expects bot operators on the English Wikipedia to have a good knowledge of our policies and procedures. Since you've only had an account for about a week, and have a total of three edits to one article (and several to an unreferenced deleted article about a non-notable game of some sort), we have no evidence that you actually possess this knowledge. Also, your proposal here also indicates a poor grasp of our policies and guidelines. If you really want to run a bot here, it would be best for you to spend some time as a normal editor, then come back in several months with a proposal that clearly indicates how you intend to do the things you wish to do.
