Discussion
[edit]- 30 edits per minute is ridiculously fast for this sort of task. By the way, was this edit made by you, Jonathon? Dihydrogen Monoxide (H2O) 07:58, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- That was an accident, I was logging out to log in on the bot account, and forgot to sign back in. Sorry! Jonathan letters to the editor — things I've written 01:14, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- He wouldnt get 30 epm with AWB anyway. 6-9 epm would be the max you could probably get. Reedy Boy 11:44, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- There is already two of these types of bots in action on the encyclopedia including ENewsBot and R Delivery Bot. If a WikiProject has requested you to perform a task, just refer them to one of the above bots instead of getting too many jobs on the block. — E talkbots 08:50, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Would one more bot hurt the servers horribly? Also, it would take a small load off of other delivery bots (not that it might truly matter.). Jonathan letters to the editor — things I've written 01:14, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Do you have the relative knowledge and performance to run and use AWB? Bot editing using this program can sometimes be very unsuccessful if you are only new to using it. Also, I don't really believe you have the knowledge of bot operation in general on the project - applying for approval of 30 edits per minute on a bot (which has now been changed) is a bit too over the top and would never be accepted. I recommend looking over Wikipedia:BOT and getting more familiar with AWB first. When you think you're ready, come back here and we can get things rolling. Good luck. — E talkBAG 05:51, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Bah, AWB is user friendly, and you shouldn't have too many problems, it a simple matter of appending text. I don't see any harm. Carbon Monoxide 00:03, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Bot trial run approved for 10 edits. Get AWB approval and you can just use a newsletter sample to test a few user talk pages, try all of the people that have contributed to this RfA. — E talkBAG 20:42, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, I did the 10 edits and it was removing {{{2| }}}'s for some reason, but on a few, it worked perfectly. Wonder why that's happening? DeliveryBot 22:57, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- It seems you were not using the correct settings on AWB to run the trial, therefore it was removing and substituting other messages. Also, do you know how to substitute the newsletter onto the pages? They should not be just templates. As far as I'm concerned, I do not think you know how to use AWB and its features because you had not deselected the certain options that aren't needed for newsletter delivery. — E talkBAG 23:04, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Fixed and what options should I turn off? DeliveryBot 23:06, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- If you know how to use AWB, you should know which options to turn on and which to turn off. You should only be appending to the talk page with
{{subst:<newsletterlocation>}}
. — E talkBAG 23:13, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]- In that case (and if that's all I needed to do), the problem is fixed. Sorry! DeliveryBot 23:22, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- Bot trial run approved for 10 further edits. Lets see how you go with substitution :) — E talkBAG 01:50, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Done and it was a success! Jonathan letters to the editor—my work 02:09, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Bot trial run approved for 1 further edit. Your newsletter template is not in normal wiki formatting. I have made the change to User:Jonathan/Sample Bot Letter and you are required to use this formatting in the future - look at the diff for information. Please still use substitution. Thank you! — E talkBAG 02:23, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
- Done. On my talk page (now creates section header, which was your change). Jonathan letters to the editor—my work 02:32, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
