Function details: The community has decided that it would like to phase out the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which 33000 users currently have enabled, 7500 of them who have edited in the last 3 months.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was "hidden" as step one of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, even if this was true
. We are therefore trapped in an uncomfortable limbo until users have been notified and step two - automatically switching these preferences to false
- can commence.
The messages I intend to leave will be tied to edit count. The more edits a user has, the more the workaround will be pushed and the less WP:MINOR will be highlighted for reading. Hence, undue patronisation should be avoided.
