Everyone is welcome to submit a short proposal for how the Education Program Structure could work. If you're interested in joining the Working Group, you must submit a proposal and fill out a short Google form with information about your background and travel preferences for the Kick-Off Meeting. The deadline for submitting a proposal and sending in the Google form is Monday, May 7.
Here are the questions you will need to answer in your proposal. Please keep answers short (no more than five sentences for each question). Answers should be preliminary ideas; we encourage you to spend less than one hour total on your proposal!
Note: by "new structure" we mean an organization that could replace the Wikimedia Foundation's role of running the day-to-day operations of the program. We're looking for a structure like a Wikimedia chapter, a university, a new nonprofit organization, etc. Please think big-picture when you answer these questions.
Please list your name and/or Wikipedia username.
What idea(s) do you have for what the new structure for the U.S. and Canada Wikipedia Education Programs could look like?
How would you ensure this new structure involves all key stakeholders, including academics and the Wikipedia community?
What are potential pitfalls of this approach?
Any other comments about your proposal?
Instructions for submitting the proposal and Google form
Fill out this Google form. This form asks for sensitive information that will not be made public outside of the Wikimedia Foundation but will help with Working Group selection and Kick-Off Meeting coordination. If you do not want to join the Working Group but want to submit a proposal, simply ignore this step.
Submit an on-wiki proposal for what the Education Program Structure could look like. To create a proposal, you will create a new Wikipedia page via the button below.
Make sure you are logged in to Wikipedia.
On the bottom of this section, you should see a text box that currently says "WP:Education Program Structure proposals/[Your title here]". To create your proposal, please replace the brackets with the title of the new page you'd like to create. For example, I might type: "WP:Education Program Structure proposals/Jami Mathewson proposal", which will create a new page titled Jami Mathewson proposal. Do not use an apostrophe (') in your page title.
Hit the button 'Create page' to create your proposal's wiki page.
The questions above should have automatically populated onto your new page. Add your answers below each bullet point. Do not remove the category on the bottom of the page, as the category gives others the opportunity to review your proposal.
Please feel encouraged to include any other ideas or comments you have, even if they don't fit into a specific question.
Save your page when you are finished. The proposal will not be created unless you click the Save button. Your proposal is now submitted and available for others to view.
