Wikipedia:GLAM/Auckland Museum Women's Archive
Background
[edit]This project is focussed on uploading metadata for New Zealand institution Tāmaki Paenga Hira,Auckland Museum's Women's Archive: correspondence and papers compiled by librarians over the 1950's and 1960's.
Scope
[edit]As the oldest research institution in New Zealand, Tāmaki Paenga Hira houses has a unique collection found within the Women's Archive of ephemera relating to women mentioned in news media. There is a unique opportunity in utilising this collection, given that all these women meet requirements for notability by being published in a secondary source, to ensure these women are being given their due significance by creating and enriching Wikidata items related to their personhood and their work on the Wikimedia Foundation Platform. It is my goal to create a digital footprint for women from a time period who were, for the most part, excluded from the history books.
A dataset of approximately 4000 women has been compiled and cleaned for the purpose of batch-uploading to Wikidata. In the spirit of innovation, and drawing inspiration from other projects such as the Vanderbilt University’s VanderBot and SDSU’s institutional data project, I would like to take on the challenge of building a bot using python for the purpose of batch-uploading to Wikidata.
Progress
[edit]- Dataset cleaned on OpenRefine
- Credentials file + bot setup on wikidata
- Script transform configuration file to metadata description file
- Script tested on test wikidata instance
- Issues with deduplication process, exploring using Mix n Match as an endpoint
