University of Melbourne: National Reconciliation Week 2021

[edit]

Wikipedia articles for Australian towns and places are a great starting point to build your knowledge of the respective local Indigenous community and Country. However, many Wikipedia articles do not provide information such as Traditional Owners or custodians, place names, Nations or language groups, and do not reflect First Australians’ ongoing cultures and continuing connection to Country.

Join us for a Wikipedia editing session (online or in person), offered as part of National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June 2021), to:

  • learn how to edit Wikipedia
  • start learning about Indigenous perspectives on the places and towns of interest to you.

More details are here.

What should I work on during the edit-a-thon?

[edit]

There are many different ways for you to contribute today. Wikipedia is the product of millions of individual contributions and every change that is made, no matter how small, makes a difference!

  • Choose an suggestion from the list below. Write your username in the last column so different people don't work on the same page during the edit-a-thon. After the edit-a-thon anyone is able to edit any page.
  • Use Australian English and spelling. If you are editing a page about an Indigenous artist, you may use words in the appropriate Indigenous language if you are confident the word is correct.
  • See also the Helpful links under the artist list for more guidance.
