April 24[edit]

Certain action makes the text frozen and uneditable in a MS Word document.[edit]

Moved to here from the Humanities section of the desk.  --Lambiam 06:07, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I began writing the text. All is good. Then I inserted the page numbers. Now the text is uneditable. It took me some time to make a connection. First, I tried to figure out how to make any text editable. MS explanation is rotten. Not helpful at all. Well, somehow the pages turned to be editable, the page numbers were gone for whatever reason, I did not try to remove them, as I said I did not make a connection. So, little demon brought my document to the editable form, and I could not even follow how he did it.

Then, I started adding more text and at one point decided to set up the page numbers again. They are helpful. Sure enough, the text froze. It is not the first time I try to fight MS Word. Hours spent. How to make the text editable and with the page numbers?

Hello. When you insert a page number in Word these days, it takes you out of the main text and puts you into a special box for the page numbers. (Because it thinks you might want to change the font size of the number, for example.) So I think you need to know how to get back.
After you insert the page number, look up at your top ribbon and you should see a box that says “Close Header and Footer”. Click on the big X and the program should return you to your main document again - leaving the page numbers inserted.70.67.193.176 (talk) 17:24, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
