"There is an opinion" - an expression, an illusion of Reliable Sources - that is relatively common in the main space of Wikipedia, although it shouldn't be. If it is not supported by reliable sources, the expression gives the false impression that the statement it accompanies is supported by sources. If it is confirmed by sources where this opinion is mentioned, then it is quite acceptable. The same is true for the expression: "many believe".
