Final Progress Report

  • All writing contributions were prose.
  • Spent a large amount of time on the image in morphology. Unfortunately, paraptosis does not have images we can use, so I hand-sketched a rough idea, and spent a lot of time in inkjet for the posted result. It was quite an informative experience, and I have a new found appreciation for flow charts and diagrams available on the internet.
  • Additionally, after loading the image, I spent time learning about alt.
  • As well as, spent a significant amount of time reading How to place an image and Template:Annotated image. Once the image was placed I learned how to incorporate the crop suggestions found here, Template:Annotated image/doc/Samples.
  • Did not see any new comments/suggestions that immediately needed attention, I will, however, reread and address anything outstanding (Lisa and I have done a good job at incorporating suggestions and making edits as they arose, so I don't believe this will be much, if at all)
  • Overall, my interactions with other students and class modulators was very informative. To my knowledge, there was no "significant help" from other "Wikipedia editors".

  • Majority of contributions were prose: cleaned up some overly technical language, and some minor errors. Added a short "See also" section and rearranged the layout a bit. Added a link to our article from the apoptosis page.
  • Overall improvements: our article had not yet been created, so everything present was added by myself and Julia, including finding/creating images and a table. I'm not aware of any significant outside help, but all of the reviewers provided helpful suggestions that we have incorporated.

Unit 8 Progress Report

(from Julia) Officially started the article page. I used ideas from our basic outline to "purpose" a basic article layout. I would imagine certain headings will become more relevant as Lisa and I gather, learn, and write about paraptosis - again, just basic ideas to get started I am sure with information additions the article might look completely different. I also began writing sections/sentences (checking and rechecking for plagiarism etc.) as I came across potentially pertinent research. Additionally, I spent time with the citations. Currently the citations are "overdone" for certain resources but as more resources substantiate those authors conclusions I imagine this will no longer be the case. Lastly, I try to keep reminding myself to link to other articles - currently I am sure I have missed some, but I will check this in the future.

Article selection rationale

We have decided to create the paraptosis article. We chose this article as it is a topic we are both interested in and has sufficient information available for research. The only other article either of us had interest in was bacteriolysis, but we decided that it is too broad of a topic to create a satisfactory article in a limited time period. Paraptosis is a somewhat recently discovered form of cell death, morphologically distinct from apoptosis and necrosis. Creating a new page for a recent discovery is a great opportunity for us to both learn about emerging information but to also be able to provide this new information to the general public. Paraptosis has been found in programmed cell death pathways in both neurology and cancer, so it is possible that this article could become an important resource as more medical research is done.

In addition to Lisa's above comments, resources relating to paraptosis available to us through the JHU library seem well focused but not overly limited. Furthermore, as Lisa alluded to, Wikipedia articles currently available on related subjects, such as apoptosis, caspase, necrosis, and programmed cell death are well developed and would be great pathways to connect to. Lastly, if early medical research is any indication, paraptosis certainly seems to be a topic/page with lots of potential - both as a current project and in the future!

The article for 5S ribosomal RNA is considered a start article. There is some basic information provided, but a more explanation is needed for a reader to obtain a meaningful understanding. The main area that needs improvement is expanding the breadth of the article. References and citations are used, but more are needed to improve the quality of the article. The article does contain tagged images, as well as links to useful databases. These could be kept and expanded on. Possible references include[1] , [2] , and [3].

Bacteriolytic

An article for bacteriolytic has not yet been created. Basic information that should be in the article include a definition and examples of bacteriolytic agents/activity and their uses. A potential problem with this article is that it is a rather general topic, which could lead to very basic information about many areas, or very detailed information about only a few. Paraptosis

This article has not been created yet. This article also does not have a commented on talk page. In order to begin to take this article to a B class, information such as a basic description of how this is a programmed cell death in the nonpoptotic form would be a start. Furthermore, elaboration on or even sections created about different types of inducers and perhaps a flow chart of pathway interactions would lay to foundation. Possible references could start to include [1] and [2]

Acetyltransferase

This article has a page. The talk section of this article does not appear to have been modified but any other editors. There is a diagram on the page, however the emphasis of this diagram should be the enzyme and not (what it is currently) a picture of what this enzyme transfers - perhaps this will make a great secondary picture. Currently on this page are references to specific types of acetyltransferases, these can be further elaborated on. Other information should be included such as chemical reactions taking place and mechanisms of action. There also doesn't appear to be any citations. Possible references could include [3] and [4]
