Wikipedia Club Pune is an initiative to increase quality content on Wikipedia and its sister projects. This organization, with the help of WikiPuneri, provides a community for citizens to learn more and teach others about contributing to Wikimedia projects. It's a fun place for active editors to participate in collaborative editing and sharing.
The club is the first of its kind outside of the US. It conducts numerous workshops throughout the year, making people more aware about the Wikipedia community and about how to contribute to it. Recently, the Club is working on a highly ambitious project called Spoken Wikipedia in Indic Languages which is to be launched at the Wikipedia Summit Pune scheduled on the 12th and 13th of January, 2013. Spoken Wikipedia aims to create articles related to India on Wikipedia and have them recorded, both, in native Indian languages.
The club's main aim is to discuss and promote Wikipedia in all possible ways. People are invited to the club to share the power of public collaboration for the development of this free, open and rich encyclopedia. A large number of people volunteer to make their contribution in different ways to this community.
The club has conducted several workshops in colleges throughout the city on Introduction to Wikipedia and on Spoken Wikipedia where student groups help the participants in live Wikipedia group-editing sessions. These workshops have had overwhelming responses from active participants as well as the college authorities.
