Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of Coeur d'Alene and Pend d'Oreille Railway Company, consists of two disconnected sections, each a single-track standard-gauge steam-operated railroad, located in the extreme northern part of Idaho. Both sections extend easterly from points on the line of the carrier, one from Corbin Junction to Bayview, a distance of 11.823 miles, the other from Coeur d'Alene Junction to Coeur d'Alene, a distance of 9.128 miles. The total length of main line is 20.951 miles. The Coeur d'Alene and Pend d'Oreille Railway Company also owns other tracks totaling 3.408 miles. Its road thus embraces 24.359 miles of all tracks owned. The property of the Coeur d'Alene and Pend d'Oreille Railway Company is leased to the carrier for sole operation under the terms of a lease running 50 years from July 1, 1910.

Corporate History

The Coeur d'Alene and Pend d'Oreille Railway Company was incorporated April 11, 1910, and organized April 18, 1910, under the general laws of the State of Washington, to construct and operate a railroad from Corbin Junction to Bayview and from Coeur d'Alene Junction to Coeur d'Alene, with provisions for branches and extensions, to build and operate telegraph and telephone lines and steamboats, to manufacture and deal in electric current, to own mine and oil lands and to deal in their products, to operate express lines, and to deal in real estate. These activities were to be confined to the States of Washington, Idaho, and Montana, and to the Canadian province of British Columbia. The property owned by the Coeur d'Alene and Pend d'Oreille Railway Company on June 30, 1917, was acquired as follows:

The construction was completed in sections and opened for operation as follows: January, 1911, Corbin Junction to Bayview, 11.823 miles; June, 1911, Coeur d'Alene Junction to Coeur d'Alene, 9.128 miles; total, 20.951 miles. The work on both sections was done by Corbin, who turned them over to the Coeur d'Alene and Pend d'Oreille Railway Company ready for operation. From the opening for operation the road has been operated by the carrier in accordance with the terms of a lease for sole operation to run 50 years from July 1, 1910.
