Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of The New Jersey and New York Extension Railroad Company, herein called the New Jersey and New York Extension, which is leased to and operated by the New Jersey and New York Railroad, is a single-track line located entirely within the State of New York and extending from Stony Point Junction to Haverstraw 2.229 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The New Jersey and New York Extension is a corporation of the State of New York, having its principal office at New York, N. Y. Although the accounting records obtained of the company are continuous for the entire period of its corporate existence, its records do not include income or profit and loss accounts. For this reason no information can be given from its accounts regarding the results of corporate operations.

The New Jersey and New York Extension is controlled by the New Jersey and New York Railroad through ownership of its entire outstanding capital stock. The records do not indicate that this company controls any common carrier corporation.

The property of the New Jersey and New York Extension was operated by the New Jersey and New York Railroad from the date it was placed in operation, about September 1, 1887, until December 31, 1917. The common-carrier property was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration on January 1, 1918, as part of the operating system of the New Jersey and New York Railroad, and it is so operated on date of valuation.

Corporate History[edit]

The New Jersey and New York Extension was incorporated June 2, 1886, under the general laws of New York, for the purpose of constructing a railroad from a connection with the road of the New Jersey and New York Railroad to Haverstraw, N. Y. The date of its organization was June 10, 1886.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the New Jersey and New York Extension, 2.229 miles, was all acquired by construction about 1887. The records reviewed do not indicate whether the construction work was performed by company forces, or under contract. There is a difference of 0.002 mile between the recorded mileage of the company, 2.227 miles, and the mileage, 2.229 miles, inventoried as of date of valuation.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property of the New Jersey and New York Extension was operated by the New Jersey and New York Railroad from the date its property was placed in operation to December 31, 1917, under lease and by virtue of stock control. From January 1, 1918, to date of valuation the common-carrier property of the New Jersey and New York Extension has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as part of the operating system of the New Jersey and New York Railroad.
