The railroad of The Sterling Mountain Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in southeastern New York. The main line extends northwesterly from Sterlington to Lakeville, a distance of 7.734 miles. The carrier also owns 1.300 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 9.034 miles of all tracks owned and used.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated May 18, 1864, under the general laws of the State of New York. The purpose of incorporation or the date of organization of the carrier has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, extending from Lakeville to Sterlington, N. Y., a distance of 7.734 miles, was all acquired by construction during the years 1864 and 1865. It is not known whether the construction work was performed by the carrier's forces or by contract.
