Wikipedia:WikiProject Ukraine/Assessment/Top-importance articles
With the upcoming anniversary of the accident (April 26th), this article will see a surge of interest from throughout the world. In its current state, it is a collection of indiscriminate information, which often detracts from the subject by launching into overspecialized topics. It can be made better.--Riurik (discuss) 15:36, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
Would not this be a "Top-importance" article because of the cultural, historical significance of this newspaper for Ukrainians in the diaspora? This newspaper:
- is the first Ukrainian-American newspaper, established 1893,
- is the most widely read Ukrainian newspaper in the West (or was for a very long time),
- is now electronically archived and so presents an invaluable reference to knowledge about immigration of Ukrainians to America (as well as the Western diaspora), their community activities, their cultural and political development and a record of international events seen through the eyes of the Ukrainian diaspora.
As an example, it provides the ONLY available electronic reference to Ukrainian community activities in Australia (covering the significant post-WWII period which was not covered by Australian newspapers), as its domestic and international journalists/contributors reported on cultural and political events that happened in the Ukrainian-Australian community. --Very trivial (talk) 22:17, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
As a person who comes from Kiev, and a person that edits/browses Wikipedia quite regularly, I doubt the role of the Kiev Metro is as important as e.g. Ukraine, President of Ukraine or even Kiev. Kiev metro does give a lot of information and may open a lot of aspects, but Kiev metro is not of that utmost importance to leave it as "Top importance" article. Undoubtedly, it is important, but I think "Top" grade exaggerates the meaning of Kiev metro. Thus, I propose to downgrade the importance of this article to "High" grade. Crimea, temporarily occupied by Russia, is Top importance article.
