This is a survey course on Islamic art and architecture. It is chronologically organized, and will cover art and architecture created in the Middle East and Spain between the seventh and seventeenth centuries. We will pay attention to particular artworks, but also try to understand the patrons, artists, architects, and audiences of the works. The artworks will also teach us about the history and variety of the Islamic world.
