We study the characteristic structures, the diversity of forms, behaviors, larval development, and habitats of marine invertebrates, with a focus on tropical species in Hawaiʻi. Organisms will be studied as live and preserved specimens and within complex communities from the local environment. Emphasis will be placed on the development of manipulative skills important in working with invertebrates, including microscopy, dissection, culture and experimentation. The Wikipedia assignment will enable students to increase the publicly available knowledge for a marine invertebrate species or group of their choice.
