This course covers the functions and ecology of microbes in diverse environments (generally in nature rather than in humans, animals, etc). We learn about specific microbes, but also functional classes of microbes (e.g. methanogens, fermenters, sulfate reducers) as well as strategies microbes use to live in different environments (extracellular electron transfer, quorum sensing, biofilm formation).
