  • Apologies, I missed Calliopejen1's comment. "being just a string of letters, is not copyrightable" is not necessarily true; In this case, however, the sign would indeed not receive protection, as it is a useful article. Эlcobbola talk 17:36, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I was basing my "string of letters" comment on the case law and concept that there has to be some minimum level of creativity involved to invoke copyright. Sadly I can't recall the name of the doctrine or the case. Anyway, the copyright holder has released the appropriate rights through a creative commons license so when I get home I'll d/l it to my home computer and upload it here. So that's two of three images sorted. Now we just need to either clear up the infobox image or replace it with one that's been properly released to the PD. • You're refering to Eltra Corp. vs. Ringer. Mere text, as a useful article, is indeed not eligible for protection. A "string of letters" is a different matter; the center portion of this is a "string of letters", but very much eligible for copyright. I was pointing out an error in the precision of the statement, not that I had concerns about the street sign. Эlcobbola talk 18:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
