Deadline

For example in the Czech ([1]) and Slovak ([2]) Wikipedias, it is impossible to promote an article in a time shorter than 4 weeks or 1 month. The deadline is therefore too short for these Wikipedias. You have a good point. This is one reason I recently changed the contest rules to incorporate a prize for Good Article status. Presumably, then people can work towards featured status knowing that they will at least win if they only get to good status before the deadline. I am working on getting rid of the deadline and making this open-ended, but I can't make any promises about what will happen once I leave NARA, so that's why there is a deadline at all.

You also have a good point about making people aware, and we haven't yet even done a lot of publicizing on the English Wikipedia, either. Ideally, the contest would be translated into other languages and put on a local page on those Wikipedias. I would really appreciate if you'd be willing to help with this. Suggestion

I've been reading the article on the United States Declaration of Independence, and ended up at a subsidiary article titled Physical history of the United States Declaration of Independence. I then had the thought that it would make more sense for this 'physical history' article (maybe under a less clunky title) to be featured as part of this contest, as NARA would likely be able to help much more with this as it is directly about archival history and provenance, preservation and conservation, and location of various copies, as well as sources from NARA detailing the history of the transfer and conservation efforts. It also mentions NARA, which helps. I wonder if the other two documents have similar articles? Carcharoth (talk) 09:27, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
