DHMO explains this essay at WT:RFA. [1]
The point is that, had Charlie not found the Golden Ticket, he would have been poor and lived a sucky life forever. So the Golden Ticket changed him from dud to stud. But UserRights don't change Wikipedia users from dud to stud. That's the point (complete with analogy! :) dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 08:58, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that's correct. If you read the book or see the film again, you'll notice that the Golden Ticket had nothing to do with his "change". He had a sense of hope, which by chance, led him to find money to buy the candy bar and gain admittance to the factory. Here, he was able to prove his capability for honesty and trustworthiness. In other words, he never changed at all. I think it's obvious who lived the "poor and sucky life", but it wasn't Charlie. Viriditas (talk) 13:05, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
and there is no lack of contributors to fill shoes. - Quantity has never been the problem. It's quality. And we have a serious lack of it here (on Wikipedia that is, not this essay). Viriditas (talk) 12:51, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
