Having just visited the Crazy Horse Memorial, I became interested in the Sioux and Lakota. As I linked from the Sioux and Lakota people articles , I realized that there were many dead links. Many of these actually referred to existing articles by other names (see recent history of Sioux, Great Sioux Nation and Lakota people for the changes I made). I soon realized that there were many and various inconsistancies in names of articles about tribes and reservations. I have been editing some articles about the Sioux. To eliminate dead links, I redirected, changed names used in the linking articles, or used renames in the links. I did not find any naming standards within the discussion of goals for this project. Some of the variations include the phrase "Sioux Indian Reservation", "Indian Reservation" or just "Reservation" or include the names of a band in the name of the reservation. Similar variations occur for article names or links for tribes. In some cases the tribe name is redirected to the name for the reservation by the same name. In other cases, the tribe name remains a dead link, or is redirected to the general Sioux article. Can anyone help me with trying to clean this up?? I know that users are encouraged be bold to do whatever seems right. I just find the inconsistencies disconcerting and fear that future attempts to edit articles for this topic will simply make things worse if no guidelines are given. I am an avid user of Wikipedia, but have done very little editing and don't know my way around the pages for editorial standards, etc. Grapeguy (talk) 16:43, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
