Another USGS topo source
[edit]It appears that http://datagateway.nrcs.usda.gov/ is also an appropriate source for topos, though I haven't looked through it entirely yet. Mapsax (talk) 20:00, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
Removed sources
[edit]I've removed a couple of sources which either were not free enough or which lacked sufficient information on their copyright. I've put the latter here. If you find an explicit licens for the map then please read it and link to that page. It's extremely important that any resources linked from this page are indeed free since if any are later found not to be free then any derivatives thereof used on wikipedia will have to be deleted. /Lokal_Profil 10:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Soviet Mil maps and OS claim of copyvio
[edit]The Ordnance Survey are claiming copyright on the Soviet military maps - claiming they are unauthorised adaptions of their own work and illegal. http://images.jomidav.com/sovietmaps/OSstatement.pdf With this in mind do we want to claim they are a PD resource? Google Map Screenshots
[edit]Can screenshots of google maps be used on wiki? (Currently USA only).
http://www.google.com/intl/en/help/legalnotices_maps.html puts restrictions on commercial products such as direct marketing and travel books:
3.1 Restrictions on Commercial Use of TomTom Licensed Content.
(a) You are not permitted to print more than 5,000 copies of sales collateral materials containing a screenshot of TomTom Licensed Content for commercial sales lead generation ("Direct Marketing"). If you desire to do so, you must (i) enter into a Google Enterprise license agreement or (ii) contact TomTom to obtain a direct license to do so.
(b) You are not permitted to incorporate TomTom Licensed Content as a core part of printed matter (such as printed maps or guide books) that you redistribute for a fee. If you desire to do so, you must contact TomTom to obtain a license.
Thus non-commercial use in wiki seems to be allowed. I think they could be put into wikicommons with a reference to these terms. Alanf777 (talk) 19:12, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
