Woonsocket is a city in Sanborn County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 720 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Sanborn CountyTemplate:GR. Woonsocket is named after Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 720 people, 301 households, and 192 families residing in the city. The population density was 918.4 people per square mile (356.4/km²). There were 330 housing units at an average density of 420.9/sq mi (163.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.50% White, 0.42% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.42% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.39% of the population.
There were 301 households out of which 26.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.9% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 10.3% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 26.3% who were 65 years of age or older.
