Xavier Technical College, Asuncion, Paraguay, (Colegio Tecnico Javier) was opened by the Jesuits in 1970. It includes primary through high school.
History
St. Francis Xavier Technical College opened in Asuncion in March 1970. Mornings saw primary school with initially 20 students in three grades, afternoons high school with 70 students, and evenings six professional courses with about 90 students enrolled. In the following years, with help from the Spanish charity Action Against Hunger, three pavilions were built, for classrooms, for administration, and for three technical workshops. Construction continued after 1978 and included a sports center.
In 1980, without State aid and with very few students, the expensive afternoon technical classes had to be dropped (radio and television technology, electricity, and auto mechanics). Other tech specialties were introduced for the afternoon.
Today
The College has since grown to include more than nine hundred students between the Initial Level, BSE and standard level scientific high schools (Basic and Social Sciences), and technical (Business Administration,[2] Marketing and Graphic Design). High school students take two ethics seminars during the year. The College also collaborates with Fe y Alegria.[3]
The College pioneered a work-program that places students with businesses gradually over the three years of the baccalaureate. Several companies participate.[4]
The College competes in intercollegiate sports in football, basketball, volleyball, futsal, and handball.[5]
