Yureni Noshika is a Sri Lankan actress active in the teledrama and movie industries. Noshika began her career winning the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World contest[citation needed] and went on to commercials before making it in the television and movie industries.

Early life

Yureni Noshika was born in Sri Lanka as the only child in the family. Raised Christian, she studied at Methodist College in Colombo and was a model student who excelled at academics and participated in a broad range of extra-curricular activities. Noshika was gaining qualifications to follow a career in law but this is currently on hold due to her acting obligations.

Career

Noshika won the prestigious "Models of the New Generation" pageant hosted by Derana TV in 2006, and went on to represent Sri Lanka at the Tourism World contest. Her potential for acting and musical talents were evident and she decided to follow a career in these fields, opting out of following a law career, which was her next preferred choice.

Following her media exposure, Noshika was approached by various internationally renowned brands to represent them in the media. After appearing in the TV commercials for Coca-Cola and Nestlé among many others, she was handpicked to appear in the teledrama Kindurangana, which was a remake for the Sri Lanka television market of the Hindi television serial Kasam Se. This was a joint venture between Balaji Telefilms of India and the Maharaja Organisation of Sri Lanka. Following the popularity of her role, she became the face of LUX calendar in that year.

Her natural beauty, charisma, and magnetism drew the eyes of the popular TV competition Sirasa Dancing Stars. She competed among the best talent and the most popular celebrities in Sri Lanka and went on to the finals of the show. Subsequently, she has appeared in many TV serials such as Sandasakki, Ayal, and Pingaladanauwwa among others and is currently one of the most recognizable faces in the industry. Following her media exposure and popularity, Noshika has been nominated as the most popular actress in both the Sumathi Awards and Raigam Awards, which are two of Sri Lanka's top awards.

Noshika entered the movie industry in 2009 and was immediately cast into one of the lead roles in the film Nino Live. The movie went on to gain both critical acclaim and commercial success.[1] Noshika is a versatile actress who does not want to be typecast in to a single genre or role. In her early years she has understood the importance of this versatility and chose to star in AddaLanuwa, DammaKodiya, a commercially successful comedy where she portrays the female lead opposite Tennison Cooray, a well-known and beloved comedic actor in Sri Lanka.
