Yvonne (musical)
Yvonne is a musical comedy first performed in 1926.[1] It was written by Percy Greenbank, Jean Gilbert and Vernon Duke (at that time still using his birth name of Dukelsky).[2]
Yvonne was first staged at Daly's Theatre, London, in May 1926, by the company originally created by impresario George Edwardes. Ivy Tresmand took the title role,[3] and Arthur Pusey also starred. Other cast members included Maria Minetti, Mark Lester, Horace Percival, and American dancer Hal Sherman. After its London run, Edwardes' theatre company took the production on tour throughout the UK.
The plot concerned Yvonne, the daughter of an academic, who impersonates a music hall singer. The most successful musical number in the score was "Teach me to Dance", with music by Marc Anthony and lyrics by Harry Graham. Copyright: MCMXXV by Ascherwood, Hopwood & Crew Ltd.
