Zokir Almatov (born 10 October 1949 in Zangiata, Tashkent Region, Uzbekistan), sometimes romanized Zakir, was the interior minister of Uzbekistan until 2005, and was said to have been a member of the Samarkand clan, a powerful political clan in the government of Uzbekistan. He planned to perform a coup d'état against President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov around 2004, when he led the Interior Ministry. At the time, he was a rival of Rustam Inoyatov, head of the National Security Service (SNB). He retired due to poor health.[1]
