Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

KurtRoy69 → TinyNoteAudio

Renamer note: I noticed that "Tiny Note Audio" is the name of a company or website, according to a Google search. Are you affiliated with this company? If you are, please note that usernames cannot be the name of a company or organization, as they are considered to be promotional in nature. See Username policy § Promotional names. If you are not, feel free to just let me know below. Thanks, —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:37, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vandewoestijne → Office_Edits

Renamer note: The requested username may classify as an inappropriate username under the username policy because it may suggest that your account is affiliated with (and makes edits on behalf of) the Wikimedia Foundation. Please pick a new name. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:38, 1 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Jersey City Riot → I Love to Hate You

I do not see how my username violates any of the provisions on inappropriate usernames: no one should be offended; it is not personal; it is not intended to provoke an emotional reaction; and it shows no clear attempt to disrupt Wikipedia. I do not see how it can bother anyone considering the generic and unremarkable nature of a phrase like "I Love to Hate You". Jersey City Riot (talk) 21:48, 2 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Renamer note: The requested username definitely seems problematic, as other editors may find it offensive or unsuitable for a project like Wikipedia, and they may drag you to WP:RFCN over it. My suggestion is to just post at RFCN and see what the community thinks about that name first before renaming. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:22, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
After a quick investigation, I came across I love to hate you, which was blocked by JLaTondre back in 2006. (Pinging since you're the blocking admin) —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:27, 4 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

SkynetKami → Rising Rain

@SkynetKami: Looks like you are confused between usernames and article names. Well in order to create article it's not necessary to have username as article name. You can create article with the name you want using article wizard. Also if you looking for a account rename please choose another username since it's the same as the article you are working. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:47, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@1997kB: As stated in the request, the intention is to change my username from SkynetKami to Rising Rain, due to the user page title being set to the name of the the user, which to my knowledge is unalterable. I was not aware that it is against Wikipedia policy to set one's username as the title of one's user page. Regardless, this bears no relevance as any article I create independent of my user page on the intended topic is sure to violate Wikipedia policy and face immediate deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SkynetKami (talkcontribs) 23:18, 6 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

G3n10z → Ep1curo

Renamer note: @G3n10z: Unfortunately the chosen username is too similar to existing usernames: Epicuro. Please choose another one. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 14:44, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
