...Hey, Uyğur, oyan, iylle yatdığın yetər, Səndə mal yox, indi gedərsə can gedər. Bu ölümdən özünü qurtarmasan əgər, Ah, sənin halın təhlükə, halın çox betər. Qalx! dedim, başını qaldır,iylle yuxunu aç! Rəqibin başını kəs, qanını sıçrat! Bax ətrafa yaxşıca, gözlərini aç, Öləcəksən peşmanla bir gün, yox əlac. Hələ cansıza bənzər iylle nazik tənin, Ondanmıdır, qorxmursan ölümdən? Çağırsam, tərpənmədən eləcə yatırsan, Oyanmadanmı ölmək istəyirsən eləcə? Gözlərini aç, iylle yaxşıca ətrafına bir bax, Öz istiqbalın haqqında bir uzun düşün. Gedərsə əldən bu qənimət, bu fürsət, Gələcək min bir problem, min bir dərd. Könlüm sənə acıyır, hey, Uyğurum, iylle Yoldaşım, qardaşım, dostum, əqrabam, Darıxıb səndən, oyandırsam səni, Eşitmirsən heç də, nə oldu sənə? Gün gələr, bir gün peşman olarsan, Bax, o zaman sözü görərsən. Kaş ki, desən o zaman yetişmədən, O gün Uyğur sözünü anlarsan... 这是我们维吾尔史诗《alta uighur bir olarsan》中的节选,是诸多突厥古老文献之一,主题是对刘氏部族的赞美与颂扬...

I don't think it's a wise decision to paste the entire article from Name of Turkey to History of the Turkish People. Much of the original article of Name of Turkey actually does not talk about the "Turks" as an ethnic group, but about the NAMES that had been historically conferred on the land we now call "Turkey". I totally disagree with putting all this information under "History of the Turkish People". It is rather, about the land, or country, not about the people. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bestlyriccollection (talkcontribs) 06:10, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Please, this revert is not about if the material you paste is correct or wrong. It is about matching the intention of the title and the content. Look at the article "Name of Istanbul." The article should only include "etymology of the word TURKEY", same as the name of Istanbul. You are performing WP:OR by including unrelated content in the article. If this continues, you will receive opposition, which might end up removal of the article. It is better if you tell your story in its correct place, which fits to history of Turkish people. Please, check the article history of Turkish people and you will see that that content is the correct article what you want to say. This article is about etymology, not history. TarikAkin (talk) 15:50, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm very happy you are contributing wikipedia. The content you are adding has an already developed initial content. You valuable additions are welcome under History of the Turkish people. Please take a little time and look at that page. The title you choose to add your contributions are not appropriate. Your current edits under "names of Turkey" is constituted as WP:OR. I'm happy to help you if you ask my help. --TarikAkin (talk) 00:47, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

A Chifa dish called "Airport"

Chifa is a term used in Peru to refer to a style of food produced by the fusion of creole Limean food with Chinese food brought by Chinese immigrants mainly from the province of Canton in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. It is also used to define a restaurant where this type of food is served.[1] Chifa has become one of the most popular types of food in Peru and has achieved international notoriety. The term chifa probably comes from the mandarin 酒饭 jiǔfàn which means food and drink[citation needed]. However, the jiǔfàn is highly speculative and disputed. A more plausible origin of the name "chifa" seems to be a corruption of the Mandarin phrase "chi fan" (吃饭, eat rice, eat meal) which is supported by a similar corruption, "chaofa" in the Peruvian colloquial language, which should actually be "chao fan" (炒饭, fried rice) in mandarin. Despite the fact that the founding element of the Andean Chinese community has been Cantonese, Mandarin words were used in the creation of the name "chifa" (as Mandarin "chi" in Cantonese is either "heg", "sek" or "yag", a far cry from the chosen name). This is an interesting trivia that highlights the prestige of Mandarin (then not yet the standard official language of China, only that of the Mandarin official class) in a 19th and early 20th century overseas Cantonese community. Similar prestige of Mandarin among the early modern period overseas Cantonese or Hokkienese can be found in Jose Rizal's studying the language as perceived part of his ethnic heritage. To emply "chi fan" (eat meal), a verbal phrase as a noun is rather crude and incorrect grammatically in Chinese. This implies a rather uneducated and informal use of a Mandarin term by the Cantonese. The lack of proper Cantonese word for "cuisine" and the lack of knowledge in Mandarin could be the cause. The similar type of overseas Cantonese cuisine is called Chop suey in North American, a culinary term nonexistent in China proper. This means overseas Cantonese cuisine, called "Chifa" and "Chopsuey" variably, lacked a common name when it was first invented.

  • Transwiki to Wiktionary. Notability doesn't have to be established outside of a particular area. If something is notable, even locally notable, then it is notable. That said, this is likely more appropriate for Wiktionary unless more sources can be found. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:31, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Transfer to Wiktionary and delete from Wikipedia. No need for an encyclopedia article. As Oda Mari noted, it's just the Japanese term for "hearing things" as in "I must be hearing things." A comedian uses it as the title of a segment of a television show. Some English speakers use the term as a borrowing from the television show. That doesn't merit an encyclopedia article. The examples belong in a blog. Fg2 (talk) 01:43, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep precisely because this is the English wikipedia, and coverage of other cultures is not just suitable but necessary. This is apparently a genre of joke, and considered a notable genre there, and therefore worth an article. As for examples, I think the number is modest, just bout right to make the point--about half were clear enough for even a non Japanese-speaker american like me to smile. This is the sort of subject which cannot be clearly described without some examples. DGG (talk) 05:36, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep - sources may be difficult to deal with as they are likely to be in Japanese. But being popular enough to generate a recurring segment in a comedy show is evidence that the subject is likely notable and kept per WP:BIAS. -- Whpq (talk) 18:00, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep This is a very popular mode of humor in Japanese culture. Someone who can access Japanese academic articles should check to see if there are actually articles on this comedy style. Has potential for expansion with regard to the origin of the practice and comparing it to other forms of humor and to similar practices in other cultures. --Polaron | Talk 23:24, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Weak Keep, but rename Soramimi hour and copyedit like Headlines (The Tonight Show). Or merge into Tamori Club. Oda Mari (talk) 04:50, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Comment Although I prefer deletion, if it is kept, it should be renamed as Oda Mari proposed. Better than keeping as a standalone article, even with the suggested new title, is to merge it as Oda Mari also proposed. Fg2 (talk) 05:25, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Keep Because deletionism is stupid and counterproductive. --Criffer —Preceding undated comment was added at 13:39, 11 December 2008 (UTC).

Original Soramimi Article

[edit]

Soramimi kashi (空耳歌詞; literally, misheard lyrics) is a word used in the Japanese language to describe lyrics of a song that sound like the original, but are actually made up.

An example would be the Moldovan band O-Zone's song Dragostea din tei or Maiyahi (マイヤヒー, named from the words that start the song - ma-ia-hii, ma-ia-huu...).One line of the original lyrics are:

  • Alo, salut. Sunt eu, un haiduc. (Translation: "Hello, greetings, it's me, an outlaw.")One of the Japanese soramimi kashi of that line is:
  • Arrow 猿 すげぇ… うん? 拝読 (Arou saru sugee... un? haidoku) (Translation: "Arrow, monkey, amazing... Yeah? Reading.")

Japanese comedian and TV personality Tamori has had a long-running "Soramimi Hour" segment on his TV program ( Tamori Club), where he and his co-host watch mini-skits based on soramimi kashi submitted by the audience.

Further examples (from "Soramimi Hour"):From Sean Paul's "Fire Links Intro":

  • Mayday! [...] Dutty [...] Sean Paul! This one is hot!
  • 目痛い! [...] どっち? [...] シャンプー! リンスは無いさ!
  • Me itai! [...] Docchi? [...] Shanpū! Rinsu wa nai sa!
  • My eyes hurt! [...] Which one? [...] The shampoo! There isn't any more hair conditioner!

From Wu-Tang Clan's " Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber":

  • よ よ 嫁! ホラホラ 嫁! フマキラー付いてるよ
  • Yo yo yome! Hora hora yome! Fumakirā tsuiteru yo.
  • Hey hey daughter-in-law! Look look daughter-in-law! You've got Fumakilla [a Japanese brand of insecticide] stuck to you

From Mariah Carey's "Jesus Born on this Day":

  • Oh Jesus, born on this day
  • おじいさん オナニーしてる
  • Ojīsan onanī shiteru
  • Grandfather is masturbatingFrom Michael Jackson's " Ghosts":
  • Because now it's on me [...] Don't understand it. Ow!
  • びっくりしたオバサンに [...] どんなのしてんだ? 青!
  • Bikkurishita obasan ni [...] Donna no shitenda? Ao!
  • [I said] to a surprised older woman [...] What kind are you wearing? Blue!

From Jim Croce's " Bad, Bad Leroy Brown"

  • Meaner than a junkyard dog
  • 二度目の東京ドーム
  • Ni dome no Tōkyō Dōmu
  • Tokyo Dome a second time

From The Beatles' " I Want to Hold Your Hand"
