Image of assembled Rebbes in '47[edit]

This is an extremely rare photograph. I've never seen it before. It's really amazing. I'm wondering if you can indicate more specifically the names of those sitting at the table (i.e. who's who, who's the speaker at the right, standing, etc.).

The only one I recognize is the Boyaner (I think), with his back to the camera, 4'th from right.

Also, this seems to be a rabbinical conference rather than a tisch. I'm wondering if this event can be further identified. (There were many such conferences in the late '40s/early '50s pertaining to communal matters of the newly expanded Jewish community in the U.S.)

If you know, or can find out, any more details, it would be immensely appreciated by many. Many thanks. --Kotzker 16:01, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was very unusual. The previous Rebbe did organize the Agudas Admorim, but this was actually a private family tisch the Rebbe (R' Yaakov Yisroel Korff, wearing Shtreimel) had with his cousins prior to the chasunoh of his son, the present Rebbe's father. I have notations of the Rebbes but not in order, and it's difficult to attach names to faces (or backs). I do believe you're right about the Boyaner, though. --SharonH 17:15, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info, Sharon. I'm especially interested in which ones are the Rachmestrivka and Skverer Rebbes, and their names. I didn't know there was a Rachmestrivka Rebbe in the U.S. at that time. Was it R' Yochanan (father of current Rachmestrivka BP) from Jerusalem? The Skverer could've been R' Yakov Yosef (from New Square), although I thought he only came to the U.S. around 1950. The other possibilities are R' Dovid (Boro Park) or R' Mechel (Flatbush). If you have any way of finding out, it would be very helpful. Many thanks. --Kotzker 20:40, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know exactly which ones are which. I do know that the Zviler Rebbe was the one who brought most of these Rebbes into the United States, including R' Yakov Yosef, and I think the Skverer in the picture was either R' Yakov Yosef or R' Itzik'l Skver from the Bronx, father of R' Dovid of Boro Park and R' Mechel of Flatbush. --SharonH 21:44, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article states R' Itzik'l passed away in 1941. --Kotzker 23:17, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This definitely around 1947, so if 1941 is accurate then it had to be Yakov Yosef. Just guessing, though because the notation only says Skver but not which one. --SharonH 11:17, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
