Borgo Medioevale is a complex of ninetheenth-century buildings realized on the smallhill of San Venanzio in Teramo, through an extravagant fusion in a single structure of different artistic styles(from neogothic to the Mooris,with different contaminationsthat comes from a lot of formativ experiences maturated over time by his author).This group of buildings and green areas is also identified with the name of CASTELLO DELLA MONICA.

It takes the name from his artist Gennaro Della Monica, who wanted it and progected it, started in 1889 after the Provincial Deputation released the permit "di poter realizzare un Casino… residenziale, parallelo alla strada per Bosco Martese".

In 1890 was already been erected the walls of the central bod and coverd the roof. The principle build, wich constitues the actual castle, was erected on the site of ancient Church of San Venanzio, reduced by the French in powder, from wich was reused construction materials and decorative elements. Castello della Monica is connected to the neogothic taste, trendy in that time as well as we can say of the castle of Vincenzo Bonifaci, builted during the first period of 1900 in Vallenquina, near Valle Castellana, there are some people that assosiated the progect to Della Monica. But Cosimo Savastano clarifies, reporting the text of a note found among the cards of the painter, that «it's not an example of a gotic revival properly speaking, but it is, for a lot of axpects rappresentative of culture figurative-literary and the sensibility of '700 and '800:the complex takes cue from the picturesque taste of the eighteenth-century, it fed itself from the romantic ideology stimulated from the discovering of the castle … (of the Middle Age)[…]all in shapes and decorations drawn with a lot of freedom and inventiveness from the gotic reportoire with Moorish contaminations». Likely the progect was born in Della Monicas mind already for some years, at least since his travel to Torino, in occasion of the Exhibition in 1884(in wich he expose two paintings) when he was admiredto the view of the suggective BORGO MEDIEVALE realized in Parco del Valentino. Della Monica lived in the castle and placed his studio, where pick up an enourme size of studies, notes and drawing realized during the work to complete the interior part and all the complex. In the following years, in fact, two secondary buildings were complete that, with the principle body, form a a real and proper village in the medieval stile:in addition to the main building(ala ovest) and the two buildings in the valley( ala est), the Borgo includes a service dipendence (ala sud) and beautiful gardens with terrace. In september 1900, during the party of the inauguration and the opening of the cult of the Church Madonna Delle Gazie in Teramo, the Stoker Pietro Paolo Vallone invented a extraordinary show of pirotecnic illusion that had as own theme the fire of Castello Della Monica. After the Death of Della Monica (1917)was Vincenzo Bindi, the art historian born in Giulianova, proposed for the first time the acquisition from the part of municipality to allocate it to seatof the civil Museum. But the moption was critisized from a lot of parts and was immediatly set aside. situated in a isolated part between the green of the hill in San Venanzio, ovest of Teramo, the Castle becames s caractheristic element of the aprutins lanscape, as well as in the east of the city for the Osservatorio Astroomico that Vinvcenzo Cerulli,at the end of '800 had built on the hill of Collurania. But due to uncontrolled building proliferation, from the second postwar the Castle was gradually more and more surrounded and suffocated by hoiuses and condominiums that finished to cover up the profile until it make it indistinguishable from sight and mortify any landscape value. Exept an opnly build, nowdays used as a civil house, the rest of the complex is today proprety of Teramo and is in a restoration to be reopend to the pubblic and given back to the city. IN 15 dicember 2013 was activated the new illumination of the east sifde of the principle Castle.
